Can learning become an enjoyable, entertaining experience?

Can students learn through team membership and competition?

Can computer technology used in a game situation help students learn?

Quiz Pro 2000 can do all this and more!

Quiz Pro 2000 is a computerized quiz buzzer system designed to turn your classroom into an interactive Jeopardy style learning environment where students learn and have fun in the process. Eight players can be accommodated with our Quiz Pro 2000 (QP2K) unit. An expansion package allows up to sixteen players. Each player is equipped with a box containing a large red push-button (1" in diameter) and lamp (see photo). A player's lamp is turned on the moment his button is pressed, locking out every other player....while a sound attracts the attention of the Quiz Master.

QP2K is made with the latest electronics circuitry and will provide years of reliable service. The power and reliability of the QP2K system are the direct result of the use of an embedded microcontroller in the main unit. In fact we are so confident in QP2K that we are offering a 3-year warranty on the entire system! About the only thing you will ever need to do is replace a lamp.....and a lamp test feature is provided to locate burned out lamps. Included with the QP2K purchase is a box of ten extra replacement lamps.

QP2K comes complete with main unit, power supply and 8 detachable push button/lamp boxes. Each push button/lamp box is connected to the main unit by way of a 12-foot cable. If you decide that this 12-foot distance is too short, then it can be easily extended using readily available cables sold at most audio and electronics stores. The QP2K unit has been tested with cable lengths as long as 100 feet. If you prefer you can purchase the extension cables from us. Please refer to the table below for pricing and availability.

Perhaps you already have a similar system made with relays and 100-watt light bulbs? Why not replace it with this faster, more efficient and reliable, computerized version?

COMPUTERIZED?

The QP2K system must be connected to an IBM PC using the supplied serial cable and software. The software is Windows based and requires the Microsoft Windows operating system and at least a 486 IBM compatible with 8 megabytes of ram. A sound card and speakers are also required to generate sounds. A second similarly equipped computer can also be connected to QP2K (with supplied cable) to display the quiz scores and times.

Great software makes our QP2K product excel!

The entire set of quiz questions, answers, point values, player names and teams can be entered into the computer in advance of a quiz. Multiple sets of quiz questions can be stored on the computer for multiple quiz contests. Quiz contests can be paused on one day, saved to disk and then restarted on another day. Quiz questions can have different point values and can be defined as either Tossup or Bonus. A special entry form allows quiz question sets to be entered, edited and saved. As each question appears on the screen, the first player answering it is acknowledged. The QuizMaster determines if the answer is correct and the question point totals are automatically tallied.

Players are grouped into teams during the quiz contest. Each contest can have a maximum of five teams. The computer will automate the whole quiz contest and record everything. Stopwatch style timers display and record round and answer times.

The sound card in the PC is used to generate all the sounds during the quiz game. QP2K comes with a default set of sound files (wav files). Sounds are assigned to different events in the quiz contest such as clicking on the Correct button to award points to a player for a correct answer. The software configuration can be changed to allow any sound or wav file to be assigned to any quiz contest event.

Pictured above is a typical QP2K configuration. (Note the two PCs.) The left eight push-button lamp boxes are part of the standard kit. The right eight push-button lamp boxes must be purchased separately. The upper PC is used to display the quiz scores and times in large characters. Its display would face the quiz players and would easily be seen by everyone. The lower PC is used by the QuizMaster to control the entire quiz contest. NOTE - The displayed objects are not drawn to scale. The QP2K main unit is pictured to the left. There are 8 phono jacks on each side to accommodate a total of 16 players.

New USB support – QP2K normally connects to one of the COM ports.  However an adaptor is now available to allow QP2K to connect to a PC via a USB port.  Requires MS Windows version (98 or later) and free USB port. Contact us for more details.

New push button box design – smaller and more functional. Standard package includes 4 green and 4 red colored buttons.

New box dimensions: 5 x 2.5 x 1.5

Old box dimensions: 6 x 3.5 x 2

OPERATION

The operation of QP2K is user configurable. In the typical mode of operation all the quiz buttons are open and all the lamps are off. The QP2K main unit is continually looking or scanning for a closed button. The Quiz Master reads the question appearing on the computer display and then starts a count down timer. The time can be varied from 2 seconds to 10 seconds. The players have to respond in this time period. If no one responds a buzzer sound is generated, the system is reset and the next question appears. However if a button was pressed the QP2K unit detects it and stops scanning. A sound is generated and the respective player's lamp is turned on.

The QuizMaster can see who pressed the button on his computer screen. If the player answers correctly then the Quiz Master clicks on the 'Right' button to give the player/team X points.  If the player answers incorrectly then the Quiz Master clicks on the 'Wrong' button and the player/team loses X points. QP2K is automatically reset. The next question appears and the quiz continues.

Questions are either toss-up or bonus. Whenever a player/team correctly answers a toss-up question then a bonus question will be asked. Only the player/team who correctly answered the toss-up question will be allowed to answer the bonus question. All other players/teams will be locked out for the bonus question.

NEW FEATURE – Several of our customers have shown an interest in having the Quiz Pro system work in an On-The-Fly mode.  In other words they wanted to use it without having to have the questions typed in,  in- advance of the quiz contest.  They wanted to read the questions from a hand-written list or even just make them up right then and there.  This is now possible and the Quiz Pro system will work in this way.

You can download a copy of the Quiz Pro 2000 Installation and Operation Manual.  It is Acrobat Reader (pdf) format.
